They warn the danger of plastic bottles
In recent years, several scientific studies questioned the concentrations of a chemical called bisphenol A, which is present in many types of containers for daily use and was considered “safe” for human health.
Given this evidence one of the lead agencies in the area, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA, according to its acronym in English) United States Government convened an expert committee to evaluate the scientific rigor of published papers on the subject .
A study by a group of scientists from the School of Biochemistry and Biological Sciences at the Universidad Nacional del Litoral (UNL), Santa Fe, Argentina and the Tufts School of Medicine in Boston, has attracted the attention of U.S. authorities.
The study has found that bisphenol A, is released when heating food in some plastic containers such as bottles, either in microwave or double boiler and can cause tumors.
The research was published recently in Endocrinology and commented on by the prestigious journal Nature.
The study found that after exposing mice to low doses in pregnancy and study of the chemical changes that occur in their offspring, “Bisphenol A, long-term effects in the mammary gland that are evident long after exposure has ended.”
In adults, exposure to BPA (bisphenol A) may not be harmful. But the fetus during pregnancy and the newborn are much more sensitive. This stage is critical for growth, development and differentiation of organs and tissues.
