Consumption of yerba mate retards cellular aging

yerba mateA study conducted by Argentine scientists found that yerba mate contains a high percentage of an antioxidant substance that retards cellular aging and prevents certain diseases, sources told Efe research.

The study was funded by the Regional Program of Assistance to the Sector herbalist and the National Institute of Yerba Mate (INYM) of Argentina, and led by Luis Brumovsky chemical engineer from the Universidad Nacional de Misiones.

This is a pioneering research as it is the first to be made with the mate priming infusion made with the mate and is consumed as tea.

According to their results, the infusion has a high amount of polyphenols that improves the human body’s natural defenses, protecting against cell damage and thus preventing the deterioration of the body and the development of disease. (more…)

28.1% of infected with AIDS in Guatemala is indigenous

28.1 percent of the 16,895 Guatemalans infected with AIDS is part of the Maya, Garifuna and Xinca, an official said.

The coordinator of the National AIDS Programme, Ministry of Public Health and Welfare, Mariel Castro, said in a meeting with reporters organized by indigenous organizations, that 27 percent of all patients with the deadly disease belongs to the Mayan people.

While 0.8 percent belongs to the Garifuna people settled in the Caribbean Guatemala and 0.3 percent Xinca in the east, said the official.

According to the source, about 58,000 people in Guatemala are infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), of which 16 895 have developed AIDS. (more…)

Intense exercise every two days is sufficient for health

exerciseThose who have no time or inclination to crushed daily in a gym are in luck: According to a group of British scientists, three minutes of intense exercise every other day may be the best way to protect against diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

That is, at least, the effect was achieved on the metabolism of 16 male volunteers who lived a sedentary lifestyle, according to a study conducted by Professor James Timmons and researchers from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh which is published in “BMC Endocrine Disorders.”

According to the study, a table of three-minute workout performed with intensity and regularity has a significant effect on the ability to process sugar metabolism. (more…)

Child Trauma and stress associated with chronic fatigue syndrome

childholdPeople who have experienced trauma and abuse during childhood are more likely to develop chronic fatigue syndrome, according to a recent article in the journal Archives of General Psychiatry.

In addition, neuroendocrine dysfunction, ie abnormalities in the interaction of nervous system and endocrine system seems to be associated with childhood trauma in people with this syndrome, suggesting a biological pathway by which early experiences influence the vulnerability to disease in adulthood.

A food allergy occurs because of an abnormal hypersensitivity reaction, which originates from taking or eating a certain food.

In children under four years, the most common allergies are caused by foods such as eggs, milk, shellfish, nuts, citrus and tomatoes. In adults this is less common allergies.

The person before having an allergic reaction to food, must be exposed to the food at least once. Allergic symptoms happen the second time the person eats the food. This time, the antibodies react with the food, histamines are released, giving the reactions. (more…)

retinopathyHypertensive Retinopathy, also known as malignant or accelerated retinopathy, is the set of changes that occur in the retina, in relation to hypertension.

These changes can be seen in the fundus examination by an instrument called an ophthalmoscope, which allows visualizing the retina and its vessels through the pupil.

These injuries occur primarily as a result of hypertension, but it seems that other factors, such as arteriosclerosis or older, may influence its development. The importance of fundus examination in hypertensive patients, reside primarily in the association between the intensity of the behavioral changes of the retina and the development of hypertension. Successfully tested against Parkinson’s disease therapy

parkinsonResearchers at the Molecular Research Center Fontenay-aux-Roses, tested in monkeys a new treatment that prevents the involuntary movements that accompany Parkinson’s disease.

A study published in the journal Science Translational Medicine, shows the results of an investigation by a team of French doctors successfully tested a gene therapy to treat Parkinson’s disease.
To simulate the disease, scientists administered to the monkeys a neurotoxin that causes the disease until the animals showed tremor, rigidity and unstable posture are characteristic of Parkinson’s disease
In this disease, the loss of dopamine results in the uncontrolled body movements. Therefore, the normal treatment is to administer to patients drugs that increase the level of the substance in the brain. However, this therapy does not maintain dopamine levels for normal operation, leading to a disorder called tardive motor. (more…)
