retinopathyHypertensive Retinopathy, also known as malignant or accelerated retinopathy, is the set of changes that occur in the retina, in relation to hypertension.

These changes can be seen in the fundus examination by an instrument called an ophthalmoscope, which allows visualizing the retina and its vessels through the pupil.

These injuries occur primarily as a result of hypertension, but it seems that other factors, such as arteriosclerosis or older, may influence its development. parkinsonResearchers at the Molecular Research Center Fontenay-aux-Roses, tested in monkeys a new treatment that prevents the involuntary movements that accompany Parkinson’s disease.

A study published in the journal Science Translational Medicine, shows the results of an investigation by a team of French doctors successfully tested a gene therapy to treat Parkinson’s disease.
To simulate the disease, scientists administered to the monkeys a neurotoxin that causes the disease until the animals showed tremor, rigidity and unstable posture are characteristic of Parkinson’s disease
In this disease, the loss of dopamine results in the uncontrolled body movements. Therefore, the normal treatment is to administer to patients drugs that increase the level of the substance in the brain. However, this therapy does not maintain dopamine levels for normal operation, leading to a disorder called tardive motor. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by yunus | July 11th, 2010 in General health | No Comments »

The renowned pharmaceutical company, Schering-Plough, has developed a Decalogue to relieve allergy symptoms, without forgetting that the best principle is to take antihistamines to relieve sneezing or sore throat.

This is what I recommend:

• Avoid peak hours pollination: reduce outdoor activities. If you exercise, it is best to do it indoors.

• Windows always closed, if the pollen concentration is high, should keep the windows of the house closed, especially while you sleep. In the car is recommended to raise the windows and install filters in the air conditioning system of the vehicle.

• Wet your home: Room Spray with water to pollens that may be suspended in the atmosphere are deposited on the ground. When there is moisture in the air, pollen loads of water and fly low, so it is deposited in the soil and affecting both people.
Tips to relieve allergy symptoms

• Antihistamines to relieve allergy symptoms: the taking of antihistamines such as Claritin, OTC antihistamine, relieves symptoms of allergy, with a comfortable use: one dose a day and not cause drowsiness in most patients, those affected may relieve symptoms associated with allergies.

• Follow appropriate treatment: an allergic disease, but not all, have a high rate of healing, if measures to avoid or reduce exposure to allergens and specific treatment is appropriate.

• Do not stay outdoors on sunny and windy days: during the days of sun and lots of air, pollen is dried, so they have greater contact with the allergy and is more aggressive.

• Beware of the field: Do not exit at this time of year the countryside, as the concentration of pollen can be up to ten times higher.

• Protect your eyes – Wear sunglasses to protect eyes from direct contact with air and prevent them itchy.

• Avoid places with snuff and smoke: Passive smoking increases the incidence and severity of respiratory allergies.

• See a specialist: if symptoms are manifested in the early spring, go to an allergist to find out if you are allergic to, what type is and the most appropriate treatment. It is important to treat allergies and as soon as possible to prevent worsening of symptoms, because sometimes they can lead to serious problems such as asthma.

Exercise-induced asthma

Posted by yunus | July 8th, 2010 in General health | No Comments »

exercise-include asthmaExercise-induced asthma is a feeling of shortness of breath, with the presence of cough, wheezing, and chest tightness after physical effort.

Normally the bronchial tree responds to exercise with increasing radius of the interior of the bronchi (bronchodilation), but those affected by exercise-induced asthma occurs otherwise narrow and produces bronchoconstriction.

CAUSES
The exercise-induced asthma (EIA) is due to cooling and drying air relative (loss of H2O) by increased ventilation during exercise. The cooling and drying cause changes in the osmolarity of the mucosa, leading to one hand, there is a mast cell degranulation with release of mediators, and second, to the occurrence of direct vagal stimulation. The result is the emergence of bronchoconstriction. Cold air inspired Low humidity of inspired air, Loss of heat from the air. Exercise-induced asthma Read the rest of this entry »

fungiWhat are fungi?
Fungi are organisms belonging to the plant kingdom Tallophites order (along with algae and lichens). They reproduce through spores of a sexual or not, a distinction used in their classification. The most significant feature of fungi is the lack of chlorophyll, so they need a source of nutrition and manufactured organic compounds, behaving as saprophytes when they feed on decaying organic matter or as parasites when they settle on living organisms rather than plant or animals.

The fungi can colonize organic substrates inside and outside homes, in this case involved primarily in agricultural and livestock activities. The most important species belong to the family allergolical Deuteromicetae, but increasingly have to take more account of other families.

How can you identify mushrooms?
We can now determine the prevalence of fungi in the environment through different methods. First, it may be useful to direct microscopic counting dust samples for viewing hyphae and spores. Secondly available culture methods for growth and identification of fungi. Finally, there are effective volumetric collectors when the number of spores is important. Read the rest of this entry »
