Free RadicalsThis article is a continuation of, free radicals, “enemies of our health? represents the program that governs our lives, leading to uncontrolled cell, and the development of diseases such as cancer, or the deterioration of the arteries, cardiovascular disease, which produces the oxidation of cholesterol that is responsible for keeping them in good condition, when in equilibrium the HDL and LDL, or good and bad respectively.

How to stop the action of these cellular balance thieves?, Through food, the so-called antioxidants, which function to provide the missing electron to balance them, preventing oxidation and premature aging and the appearance of really serious diseases mentioned above.

Among them are the vitamins and minerals, today are sold complex synthetic antioxidants, but len nature are in abundance, where our food is varied.

Vitamins more popularly known to fulfill this function are vitamins C, E and Beta Carotene or pro-vitamin A, Coenzyme Q-10 as well as minerals, selenium, copper, zinc, manganese, etc.

So vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes and cereals, herbal teas, wine, cocoa, etc, represent the allies of our health in regards to antioxidants.

Some examples are:

* Beta-carotene in green vegetables, and varieties of red to yellow (bell pepper, tomatoes, carrots, chard, squash, etc.), Fruits (apricots, cherries, kiwi, peaches).

* Vitamin C: oranges, lemons, grapefruit, guavas, kiwi, pineapple, melons, strawberries, berries, peppers, tomatoes, etc..

* Vitamin E: avocado, wheat germ, cereals, olive oil, soybeans, sunflower seeds, nuts, etc..

* Selenium: ginseng, eggs, meats, fish, cereals, vegetables and fruits.

* Zinc: legumes, cereals in shell, pumpkin seeds, meat and offal, fish, eggs.

* Copper: parsley, nuts and seeds (especially sunflower), chick peas, liver, oysters.
